John J. Greenwood - Managing Director
John has been a qualified chartered accountant for over twenty eight years, specializing in offshore financial services in the UK and Caribbean originally with KPMG and more recently with Baker Tilly (BVI) Limited. John has been with the British Virgin Islands ("BVI") office since 1985. John became a Partner of KPMG British Virgin Islands in 1989. On 1 July 1992, John became Senior Partner and has headed up the BVI Corporate Recovery Practice, which now has a dedicated team of professional staff.
As a leading insolvency practitioner in the Territory, John has been involved with all the largest corporate receiverships and liquidations in the BVI, including Air BVI, Village Cay Marina and Nanny Cay Marina. John has been appointed by the BVI High Court under the Insolvency Act, 2003 as Receiver, Liquidator and Provisional Liquidator of BVI companies involved in cross-border transactions. Recently, John has been appointed by the BVI High Court to act jointly with insolvency practitioners from Baker Tilly in Hong Kong, Australia as well as the UK involving such high profile matters as the China Tennis Open, the Australian fuel pill company Firepower and the Chinese Wahaha-Danone joint venture, all involving shareholder disputes as well as powers of investigation.
John is a graduate of Manchester University (UK) where he obtained a bachelors degree with honours in Management Sciences. John became an associate member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales in 1980 and an associate member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Jamaica in 1983. John has been a member of the Advisory Committee of The BVI International Finance Centre and is a former Chairman of the BVI Association of Mutual Fund Practitioners. On coming into force of the Insolvency Act, 2003 and the Insolvency Practitioners Regulations, 2004 in August 2004, John became one of the first persons in the Territory to be granted a BVI insolvency practitioner's licence in September 2004. John is currently a member of INSOL International, the leading worldwide federation of national associations of accountants and lawyers who specialize in turnaround and insolvency.
Andrea Douglas - Corporate, Fiduciary and Regulatory Services Director
Andrea trained with KPMG in New Zealand and qualified as a chartered accountant in 1987 before joining KPMG British Virgin Islands in 1990. In 1995, she became an audit partner of KPMG British Virgin Islands. Since 1998, she has been responsible for the Firm's corporate/fiduciary services practice. When the firm rebranded as Baker Tilly (BVI) Limited on 1 October 2004, she became the international contact director for Baker Tilly (BVI) Limited. She advises both multinational and private clients about regulatory issues and offshore structures. Andrea is managing director of Orbis Services Limited, Belmont Trust Limited and Belmont Insurance Management Limited.
Andrea is a graduate of Victoria University of Wellington where she obtained bachelors degrees in both Commerce and Modern Languages. She became an associate member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants New Zealand in 1987. She is a member of STEP, a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and an associate member of the Compliance Institute.
Nigel MacPhail - Audit Director
Training with KPMG London, Nigel qualified as a chartered accountant in 1996 and subsequently joined KPMG British Virgin Islands. When the firm rebranded to Baker Tilly (BVI) Limited in 2004, he was promoted to Senior Manager. In 2006, he was appointed Director of the Audit and Accounting Department.
Nigel has accumulated an extensive knowledge of the offshore financial services industry in the BVI, specialising in the mutual funds field. Other areas of expertise include the hospitality industry and the public sector.
Nigel graduated with honours, receiving a master’s degree in history from the University of Edinburgh.
Hadley J. Chilton - Head of Corporate Recovery and Insolvency
Hadley is an insolvency practitioner, licensed by the British Virgin Islands Financial Services Commission, and a chartered accountant with eight years of experience in corporate recovery and insolvency. He joined Baker Tilly (BVI) Limited in July 2008 as the Corporate Recovery Manager.
Hadley's offshore experience includes working closely with onshore and offshore counsel on the compulsory and voluntary liquidations of high profile Cayman Islands-based mutual funds including negotiating with distressed debt teams, asset tracing and recovery, litigation support, reporting to court and to creditors, statutory duties and liaising with regulatory bodies, fund managers, directors, administrators, shareholders and creditor committees. Hadley works full time on insolvent as well as solvent corporate recovery matters.
Hadley's UK experience includes administrative receiverships, administrations, liquidations and advisory work in the industry sectors of motor retail, insurance, IT, manufacturing and marketing.
Hadley is a member of INSOL International and the Association of Business Recovery Professionals (R3). Previously, Hadley worked for Grant Thornton in the UK and for Kroll (Cayman) Limited in the Cayman Islands and is a graduate of the University of Leeds, where he obtained a bachelors degree with honours in Business Management and French.
Norman Allen - Information Technology Manager
Currently the IT Manager for Baker Tilly (BVI) Limited, Allen spent 4 years at Accenture, working as an IT Consultant specializing in Microsoft solutions. His experience at Accenture focused primarily on designing and implementing IT infrastructures for large utility companies. He implemented and tested Microsoft Active Directory for large companies while participating in the Windows 2000 Server beta program. He also managed a team of engineers who were responsible for the IT infrastructure of more than 700 users in St. Petersburg, Florida.
In 2002, Allen became the IT Manager for KPMG (now Baker Tilly (BVI) Limited) in the Virgin Islands, where he is responsible for the IT infrastructure supporting approximately 40 users. He also serves as primary support for ViewPoint Software for Business in the British Virgin Islands. In 1999, he achieved his Compaq Certified Laptop Technician certification. In 2000, Allen achieved his Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) certification. In 2005, he achieved his Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA) certification, specializing in Microsoft Windows Server 2003. In 2010, he earned his Microsoft Certified IT Professional: Enterprise Messaging Administrator (MCITP) certification, along with his Microsoft Certified Trainer (MCT) certification. He is also an active member of the IEEE and participates in the Technology Advisory Board. Allen continues to participate extensively in beta programs of upcoming Microsoft products.
Allen earned a BBA in Computer Information Systems from the University of Miami in 1998.
Kyria Ali - Head of Business Advisory
Kyria Ali is a prize winning member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (“ACCA”), who joined Baker Tilly (BVI) Limited in January of 2005. Since then she qualified as a Certified Internal Auditor (“CIA”), in November 2007. Since her move to this offshore jurisdiction, she has been involved with numerous audit and consultancy assignments for trust and management companies, financial, legal and educational institutions as well as for governmental organizations within the BVI. Kyria heads up the Business Advisory Department for Baker Tilly (BVI) Limited.
Kyria is experienced in risk management consulting, audit and forensic reviews. She has a wealth of experience in both public and private sector entities. Prior to joining Baker Tilly (BVI) Limited, Kyria worked with PricewaterhouseCoopers for four years within their Audit and Business Advisory Department as well as their Financial Advisory Department.
Andries Dippenaar - Business Advisory Manager
Andries is a graduate from the University of Port Elizabeth (now The Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University) where he obtained a Bachelors Degree in Accounting and Computer Science. He went on to obtain his Postgraduate Certificate in Advanced Auditing and Honours Degree in Accounting shortly thereafter.
Andries completed his traineeship with PricewaterhouseCoopers in South Africa and became a Chartered Accountant (SA) in 2005. He joined Baker Tilly (BVI) Limited later that same year and has gained a total of 5 years experience in auditing. During his time at Baker Tilly (BVI) Limited, he specialised in the audit of trust companies and mutual funds.
Andries was promoted to Business Advisory Manager in 2008 and is currently responsible for ViewPoint client support and training, specialising in internal accounting and information system functions.
Claire Santillan - Audit Manager
Claire joined Baker Tilly (BVI) Limited in December 2006 and has since been involved with mutual funds, trust companies, insurance captives, investment management companies and hotel resorts.
Before joining us, she was a full-time college professor and later, an audit associate in the Philippines. She holds a B.S. in Accountancy degree from Colegio San Agustin and a Masters in Business Administration degree from the University of St. La Salle, both in Bacolod City, Philippines. She passed the Philippine CPA licensure examinations in 1999 and has since been a member of the Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
Joel Demonteverde - Assistant Audit Manager
Joel is a member of Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountant (PICPA) in the Philippines. He has a degree in B.S. in Accounting from the University of St. La Salle – Bacolod, Philippines. He achieved a top 20 pass in the October 2003 CPA board examination and then worked for three years in audit and assurance services with E&Y – Philippines and BDO Philippines.
In January 2007, Joel joined Baker Tilly (BVI) Limited and has since been involved with the audits of various financial services clients including trust companies, captive insurance companies, mutual funds and investment management companies.
