I mentioned it once but I think I got away with it…
Three Baker Tilly (BVI) Limited employees raised over USD500 in sponsorship by participating in Movember again this year. For anyone who remains unfamiliar with the concept of "Movember", it is a global annual moustache-growing event during the month formerly known as November, to increase the awareness of men's health issues and in particular Prostate Cancer. You may have noticed some of your favourite sports stars recently sporting a moustache. Prostate cancer is the second largest killer of males from cancer after lung cancer, despite having a 90% success rate of being treated successfully when diagnosed.
For the second year running, Business Advisory Manager Andries Dippenaar was a category winner (by a whisker!); this time as Basil Fawlty (from the UK classic comedy Fawlty Towers) recreating moments from The Germans episode, including several quotes and the iconic walk, with aplomb.
Robert Loggia (Hadley Chilton) and Pablo Escobar (Denis Murphy), both rather ironically from the insolvency and asset recovery department of Baker Tilly (BVI) Limited, were there to cheer him on. Last year's event was very successful and over USD10,000 was raised, paying for 80% of all prostate cancer screening in the British Virgin Islands and we are hoping that the final figure for 2009 will exceed that. The beneficiaries in the BVI this year will be the BVI Red Cross, who performs prostate screening in the BVI, and another cancer charity.
